This is the most populous province in China with a population approaching 120 million. As one of the oldest areas in China and spreading out from the Pearl River Delta this was and still is one of the richest of all provinces. To this day cargo ships off load their good from giant container ships in Hong Kong harbour onto coastal steamers which ply up and down the Pearl River to Guangzhou (more commonly known as Canton) the capital city of the province.
