| For centuries Jakarta has been a pivotal meeting point and trading place for the hundreds of ethnicities that make up Indonesia. It was a hub for foreign travellers and traders plying their wares through the archipelago.
This city of over 12 million people boasts numerous attractions to entice tourism, of its biggest industries: National Museum; Chinatown which is reminiscent of the old Dutch colonial rule; antique markets as well as world class shopping, excellent accommodation and both international and local cuisine.
From a cultural perspective this city offers plays, exhibitions, recitals of both poetry and music, folk dance and drama from local and visiting performers.
Any golfer worth their salt would be hard pressed to avoid a round at such courses as Klub Golf Senayan, Cengkarent Soewarna and the Imperial Klub Golf.
Perhaps the best attraction of all would be a visit to the Thousand Islaneds of Pulau Seribu which comprises a group of 132 islands and sandbars offering such activities as diving coral reefs, lazing on golden beaches or simply visiting the ruins of the old Dutch forts.
