| The Island State of Penang lies on the North West coast of the Malaysian Peninsula and its population of 1.6 million Penangites as they are known play host to one of the most beautiful beach resorts in South East Asia. The Malaysian name is Pulau Pinang which means island of betel nuts.
It is an unusual state which is almost equally divided between a narrow strip of land on the peninsula and across a 4km channel lies Penang Island.
The State Capital is Georgetown which offers a magnificent collection of 19th and 20th century building surrounded by churches, temples, markets and retail shops where trishaw drivers, peddlers and hawkers can be seen in abundance.
Just a short journey across the Strait you will enter the seaside wonderland of Penang Island which offers not only golden beaches, private coves and all manner of watersport but also tennis and golf for those who can't leave their balls at home.
The sunny tropical weather lends itself to outdoor activities such as golf and tennis. Penang boasts five first class golf courses and the avid golfer could not let a Penang holiday go by without a visit to the Penang Golf Resort.
