| The name Tokyo literally translates to Eastern Capital. The city is home to the Japanese Imperial Family along with almost 13 million residents living in 23 wards. The area known as Greater Tokyo however has a population exceeding 35 million and since the 70s has a reputation of being the world's most popluous urban area.
Tokyo has many attractions to offer the tourist from stylish boutiques and department store shopping in the Ginza or Asakusa, to a visit to the electric city of Akihabara to the coffee shops, restaurants and bars of Roppongi.
On a clear day Japan's most famous landmark - Mt Fuji - can be seen. Naturally Tokyo is the staging ground for a trip to the ancient snow capped volcano and hardly anything in the world would surpass being atop Fuji Yama (as it is known in Japanese) as sunrise on a clear day.
