Situated on the border of New South Wales and Queensland this South of the Border town shares the title of Twin Towns with Queensland's Coolangatta.
In days gone by where licencing laws were different from state to state, Queensland residents used to travel a few minutes over the border to be able to imbibe on Sundays. In fact there was a time when Playboy magazine was banned in Queensland but readily available in Tweed Heads.
Times have changed and both Coolangatta and Tweed Heads are prime tourist destinations for visitors from interstate and overseas. The beautiful Tweed River dominates the area and is navigable almost to the inland sugar cane town of Murwillumbah.
